We Were More Effective - Ruud

Table-topping Madrid were made to work from the first minute to the last by Levante, the club rooted to the foot of La Liga.

They put in what is without doubt their best performance of the season, but los blancos overall strength in defense proved decisive, as in the final third of the game a Ruud van Nistelrooy double - the first a penalty - put the game beyond doubt.

After the match, the Dutch striker spoke to the club's official website.

“It was a very difficult match. Levante played very well, but we knew how to capitalize on our chances," he declared.

"We had more space to work with after the penalty and we put the nail in the coffin, but it wasn't at all easy."

Madrid's formidable points tally of 47 from 19 games can be put largely down to the team's fitness, perseverance and of course class, as they have won many games in the final third of games.

Though they have had their critics this season, Ruud was eager to highlight the positives, while looking forward to the more challenging fixtures to come.

"We've only lost two matches. We're in good form and we just want to stay on track," he said.

"The Atletico [Madrid] match should be interesting, but we first have to think about the match against Mallorca.”

The ex-Manchester United hit-man hailed Levante's display and insisted the team did excellently to make it so difficult for Madrid.

He also expressed his delight with the performances of his fellow forwards Robinho and Raul, as they are forming an infamous 'three Rs' connection up front.

“We played very well. We tallied three more points, but Levante played extremely well despite their situation," he explained. "Playing gets a lot harder when your in such a complicated situation.”

“What matters to me is that I'm training well and physically fit. It's essential for a professional. Football is my life. We want the second half of the season to be just like the first”

“We're playing well this season. The forwards are getting a lot of opportunities and both Raúl and Robinho are in good form. They played well and pressure us, but we were more effective.”

Real Madrid are top of the league, seven points clear of Barcelona in second place.
