We Had To Work Hard For The Win - Aguirre

The Mexican coach admitted that it was a tough encounter against Ronald Koeman's ever-improving outfit and praised his team for their workrate.

Sergio Agüero scored the only goal of the game in the first half and Atlético then held out in the second half to clinch all three points.

"We were made to give everything against a strong team that had great individual quality and is slowly playing the way the new coach wants," Aguirre said.

"It was a good win because we scored and they did not and for us it is a great result."

Aguirre then explained that the second half swung in Valencia's favour slightly when they changed their tactics and took the game to Atlético.

"They moved further up the pitch and we had to work even harder," he explained.

"The team coped with the physical game and the pressure of the opposition and we had to because with only one goal we were never safe.

"Another problem was that when we won the ball we list it very quickly, but in the end there is room for improvement."
