Munitis was taken off after sixteen minutes of Racing's victory over Bilbao at the weekend due to picking up the injury in a collision whilst fighting for possession of the ball.
Javier Ceballos, coordinator of medical services for Racing, explained that the wrist will require resting for two months before Munitis can resume training.
"It will have to be two months without doing anything," he told Marca.
Munitis will not be able to train until the wrist is fully healed, but will instead be put on a fitness regime that allows him to stay in as good a condition as possible whilst he is out.
The injury leaves high-flying Racing with a slight lack of options in the attacking areas, although the fact that Mohammed Tchite came on for Munitis and scored against Bilbao at the weekend will be encouraging for their manager Marcelino.
Munitis struck up an excellent 'little and large' partnership with Nikola Zigic in Racing's run to a tenth placed finish in La Liga last season, but has largely failed to gain the same understanding with Ebi Smolarek, who was signed as Zigic's replacement in the summer.
Nevertheless, his loss will be a blow to Racing in the coming months as they aim to continue the excellent form that has seen them climb to sixth place in the Primera Division.
