The Nerazzurri are currently the dominant force in Italian football, and with 17 games of the season gone they are still unbeaten.
With a seven-point lead over second-placed Roma, many believe that this year’s championship is already over, and Materazzi has explained why Inter are so unstoppable.
“I found Inter a more mature, ruthless and hungry side when I got back [from injury],” he explained to the Gazzetta dello Sport.
“And our main strength is that we are a squad without second-choice players.
“Are we friends off the pitch? Our strength is measured on the pitch and not at the dinner table and we are made of steel on the pitch.”
Materazzi was nurtured back to fitness in the weeks leading up to Christmas after missing the first few months of the campaign with a serious thigh injury picked up playing for Italy in August.
“I want to get back to how I was before the injury,” the hardman declared.
“I’ll need four or five full games to get to my best, but it’s up to the boss to decide what’s best.
“For now my dream is just to keep playing and then we will see about the future. In any case, I want to get the respect and the affection of the Nerazzurri faithful.”
