Following on from recent reports that Manchester United have displayed an interest in Spurs' Dimitar Berbatov, it appears that local rivals Manchester City are now seriously considering a bid.
Ultra-rich owner Thaksin Shinawatra is apparently mulling over yet another display of wealth, with The Sun quoting a club insider as follows:
"Owner Thaksin Shinawatra wants to make City the best in the country, then Europe. His aim is world domination."
Be that as it may, there are some stumbling blocks. Berbatov is said to be valued by Tottenham at £35m (46 million euros), and even if that level of expenditure is realistic, one must also factor in wages that will most likely extend to a six-figure sum each week.
And even if Shinawatra can afford it, Berbatov's agent is apparently determined to secure the Bulgarian hitman a move to a club that can guarantee itself to be among the titles come the end of this season and the next.
City's start to the season has shown that they could very well finish top four, and thus qualify for the Champions League's early stages, but Berbatov may prefer a yet bigger club.
