Carew Predicts Great Things For Capello’s England

The towering Norwegian striker knows Capello well from their time together at Roma, and obviously thinks very highly of the man entrusted to turn around England’s floundering fortunes on the world football stage.

Carew said: "I have had a lot of top managers but Capello made an impression straight away that he was special. He has an aura.

"When England decided they were not going to look for a British manager then I was not surprised they asked Capello. He has done a lot of great things.

"What he has is part of the man, you cannot learn it. The England players will find that Capello can turn you into a special player and make a very good team. It is something that is born with the man. It is like gold.

"Capello makes you feel wanted,” he added. “I know it will be different because Capello does not buy players anymore but the England players will be made to feel wanted by him as well.

"He has a very strong authority, but also a lot of humour. His personality is different from the guy in the changing room. He's a smiling guy with a lot of humour. But when he talks you listen.

"Capello is used to winning. He is thorough in everything. You feel that aura. Some managers have this magic touch and wherever Capello goes he succeeds."

Speaking after his side’s 2-0 FA Cup loss at home to Manchester United, Carew also had gushing words for his opposing striker Wayne Rooney, who scored one and set up another despite only coming on as a substitute.

"A player like that is worth his weight in gold,” said the former Valencia forward. “He missed one chance but his run from midfield was fantastic and not many forwards would even think about doing that. He got into a good position and on the goal he did it again.

"They should call Rooney 'Braveheart' or something like that because he is playing with a big heart.

"The English should be proud of him because they have a great player there with a great future and he is the kind of player who would fit in any team in the world.

"I am sure Fabio Capello will look to build his team around Rooney because he has been dealing with big teams and players before."

Finally, Carew also urged Capello not to pass judgment on Villa's promising young English duo Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Young too early, as both failed to make much of an impression under the national spotlight and with the new Three Lions boss in the stands.

"Capello should not judge people like Gabby and Ashley on that one game, absolutely not. They are great players and I'm sure he will also watch some videos of them in the earlier matches.

"Personally I didn't think they did that bad. You never know if they were nervous but still I think their performances were not too bad.

"When you know Mr Capello is in the stands, maybe you can get a bit nervous but I don't think that was a problem.

"He should absolutely come here and look at the Villa players because they have been really impressive and done well and will continue to do that."
