Many thought any interest from a major club would entice even a level-headed veteran goalkeeper away from a smaller club.
However, Steve Banks has committed his immediate future to Hearts. The formally confirmed role of goalkeeping coach and the fact that Hearts are owned by Lithuanian tycoon Vladimir Romanov may have coloured Banks’ thinking.
The decision ends speculation that Banks was about to swap Tynecastle for Ibrox. Rangers were reportedly seeking a replacement for current no.2 Roy Carroll, who is set to move to Derby County.
"I am delighted to have extended my deal with Hearts," 35-year-old Banks told the club’s official website.
"I believe the club has a bright future and we're all working hard to deliver the success everyone at Hearts wants."
Banks now officially succeeds Jim Stewart as Hearts goalie coach, after he himself was poached by Rangers earlier this season.
"I am very pleased he has decided to stay with Hearts," Hearts caretaker boss Stevie Frail added.
"It is fantastic for everyone associated with the club."
The long-suffering Frail will still be looking for confirmations regarding his own future.
