Zigic Next Target As Real Sociedad Shakeup Continues

New Real Sociedad president Inaki Badiola has restated his desire to land Valencia striker Nikola Zigic.

The Serb giant arrived at the Mestalla this summer but has had a mixed season so far, leading the Segunda Division outfit to believe that they have a chance of signing him.

The big-spending txuri-urdin have already landed Barcelona reserve Marc Crosas, and are apparently on the verge of signing highly-rated youngster Fran Merida on loan from Arsenal.

Zigic would complete the incoming trio, but could also potentially cause a managerial reshuffle.

Boss Chris Coleman has publicly stated his unhappiness at having his squad changed so dramatically without his input, with Badiola thus admitting that there is a potential replacement waiting in the wings.

He told the press, "We're going to meet with Zigic's agent in Valencia next week to discuss the matter.

"We also explained our project to [Chris Coleman], and asked for his support with it.

"We told him of our five high-priority signings, and our three Plan B targets.

"He understood what we want. We have a plan B in mind with [Javier] Irureta, but I hope that we can rise above it."

Irureta has been out of management since leaving Real Betis by mutual consent in December 2006. Previously, he spent two seasons bossing the txuri-urdin between 1995 and 1997, having left Athletic Bilbao after one year.

Afterwards, he coached Celta Vigo and then Deportivo La Coruna, with whom he enjoyed both domestic and European prestige, before signing on at Betis.
