SWP swoops for Chelsea

Chelsea took the lead when Wright-Phillips, played in by Florent Malouda, let fly with a shot that went in off the post.

The home side, who could have been further ahead before half-time, found themselves a man down when Mikel received a straight red card from referee Peter Walton for a foul on England's Phil Neville in the 54th minute.

Everton then drew level 10 minutes later when striker Ayegbeni Yakubu shot powerfully past Hilario.

The second leg of this tie takes place at Everton's Goodison Park ground on 23 January.

North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham meet in the first leg of the other semi-final at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.
