Real Madrid have lost Mahamadou Diarra to international duty, while Sevilla are minus Kanoute, Keita and Kone, but Samuel Eto'o remains at Barcelona.
The striker has been given special dispensation by Cameroon to play in his club's next two matches, versus Sevilla in the Copa del Rey and Murcia in the Liga, leading some to question why only Eto'o, and not others, was allowed to remain.
Sevilla coach Manolo Jimenez believes that the Copa has been "distorted" due to the squad imbalance, but Real Madrid boss Bernd Schuster feels that it is down to the relative status of the players in question.
"It's a position problem," Schuster told Realmadrid.com.
"Eto'o is the King of Cameroon, but Diarra isn't the King of Mali yet.
"Eto'o is much more important to his country than Diarra or Kanouté are to Mali. He's got a good relationship with the King, who has more of a say than the manager.
"Managers want their players from day one, and they have a good team that may do very well. I understand that the manager wants his players now and not once the competition is underway.
"I would also make a big push, but we also have out own concerns. We just have to accept it."
