Rodrigo Tui In Lisbon For Sporting Medical

Sporting Lisbon are set to sign Rodrigo Tiuí on a free transfer. The Brazilian striker arrived today in Lisbon to complete a medical and negotiate contract details with the Portuguese giants.

The 22 year old's contract with Brazilian club Fluminense ended in December, and the player is set to make the jump across the Atlantic ocean to play in the Bwin Liga.

On arrival at Portela Airport in Lisbon, Tiui declared to the media "I am still not a Sporting player, I have yet to complete the medical tests, then hopefully I will sign. It is a good club"

Tiui concluded by saying: "I already know (Sporting player) Pedro Silva, he is a good friend of mine. It will be easier for me to come and adapt to the city and the club. I am hoping to settle in quickly in Lisbon."

Tiui will be brought in to partner fellow Brazilian Liedson in attack, hoping to end the problems in attack that Sporting have suffered this season.

Star striker Liedson has experienced his worst period since playing for the Lisbon giants, and has gone seven games without scoring, a sequence that Sporting fans will hope will be terminated with the arrival of a new partner in attack.

Sporting are currently a massive 14 points behind Porto in the league, and manager Paulo Bento will be hoping that the imminent arrival of Tiui in attack will spark a resurgance in the Lisbon club.
