Pablo Aiming To Open Up Top Four Gap

The Spanish international defender believes that the win at Deportivo last weekend has lifted the club after their defeat in the final game of last year by Espanyol.

A trip to Valencia on Sunday is followed by the local derby against Real Madrid seven days later and Pablo wants the club to finally make a push for a Champions League spot.

"We want to be among the top four and will try to open up a gap between ourselves and Villarreal, Sevilla and Valencia," he explained.

"There is still along way to go in the league and it would be foolish to think that we had done anything yet with so many games left to play.

"If we can reach 40 points by winning those two games we would be able to leave some teams behind.

"It is going to be a complicated month, but we are ready and are looking forward to it."

Victory at Depor moved Atleti back into the top four and Pablo was pleased to have finally recorded a win against the Galician outfit in their own stadium.

"I had never won there before and the team played very well, although we know that Deportivo were not at their best," he continued.

"But that is not to take credit away from ourselves for the win as it was very important. We controlled the game and were strong in front of goal."

Finally, Pablo reflected on the praise being heaped on Sergio Agüero after the Argentinian striker produced another good performance in Riazor.

"Agüero can do even better," he said. "He is a great player. We saw last season that he had everything needed to succeed and I think he is still growing.

"He is still young and can become even stronger."
