Mathis Set for Greek Adventure

Greek First Division side Ergotelis is reporting on its website that former U.S. international Clint Mathis has signed with the club.

The Los Angeles Galaxy, who acquired the 31-year-old striker from the New York Red Bulls for a third-round seclection in next week's MLS SuperDraft, are claiming that the deal isn’t complete at the moment.

“We've been told that nothing is signed,” said Galaxy President Alexi Lalas on Friday morning from the MLS Combine in Florida, “but if Clint feels that his future is in Iraklion, then we wish him well.”

Mathis accompanied the Galaxy on the team’s off-season trip to Australia and New Zealand last month, scoring a goal in L.A.’s 4-1 victory over the Wellington Phoenix.

After a drop in form in 2005 and 2006, the Conyers, Ga., native bounced back in 2007 to score six goals and register two assists in 26 games for the Red Bulls. He’s played with four different MLS teams during his career, including two separate stints in New York and Los Angeles.

Ergotelis, which is said to have a strong local following in Crete, is currently in last place and in danger of being relegated.
