Martins Eyes More Playing Time Under Keegan

Martins, currently on duty with Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations, has hailed the arrival of Kevin Keegan, as he hopes to fall back in favour at St. James' Park.

Under his predecessor Sam Allardyce, Martins found himself being substituted in 11 of his 16 starts and was left disillusioned by much of the experience, having been brought to the club by yet another manager of the Toon earlier in that same season, Allardyce's predecessor Glenn Roeder, who is now at Championship side Norwich City.

"I cannot say I have good memories of Allardyce's time," admitted Martins.

"I definitely think he should have played me more.

"Will it be good to have a fresh start? If something is not right you must change it.

"I don't know why he didn't pick me but he never said anything to me.

Upon return from the Cup of Nations in Ghana, Martins is hoping that new manager Kevin Keegan can help his game as he looks to re-establish himself as a starter on Tyneside.

"I believe Kevin Keegan can help my game," he said.
