Korea entertain Chile on Wednesday in the capital but the real fun begins on February 6 when Turkmenistan provide the opposition for the Taeguk Warriors’ first qualification match.
Seoul has been shivering in sub-zero temperatures recently with the mercury falling as far as -14 degrees Celsius.
Initial weather forecasts suggest that the game against Chile will be played in temperatures of -10C with the following week possibly becoming even colder.
“Turkmenistan is a team that we should definitely beat,” said Huh. “But the icy conditions will make it more difficult for us to score.”
Huh, appointed to the job in December, would prefer to switch the game to a warmer venue in the south of the country but he has been assured that the conditions at the stadium will be fine.
“For the games on the 30th and the 6th, there will be no problems,” a spokesman for the stadium said.
“The grass has been protected and its condition is normal.”
