The match was Okada’s first since returning to the national set-up in December. Chances were few and far between in a tight encounter in the capital.
"It was kind of nice to feel that nervousness, that intensity again,” Okada, who was in charge of Japan during the 1998 World Cup, told reporters after the game.
“I didn't get the feeling that the fans were cheering for me in particular, but they were very supportive of the team.
"A win would've been good, but maybe a result like this is just the thing we could have used."
"Chile was an outstanding team who pressed us for 90 minutes straight," Okada said. "We learned a lot about playing under pressure, and this was a good experience for us.
"We definitely played for a win and it's unfortunate we didn't get it. But maybe this result is better than had we won with Yoshito Okubo scoring once or twice."
Japanese goalkeeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi also thought that the World Cup warm-up was a good test for the team.
"I think we're in decent shape considering that this was our first match of the year," he said. "We defended well as a team, but we made some mistakes we shouldn't have made.
"And when we made mistakes, it led to their opportunities so this is something we need to watch out for. But our work rate was there and it's a shame we couldn't win."
Japan face Bosnia on Wednesday and then host Thailand on February 6 in the opening World Cup qualifying match of Group B.
Chile head to Seoul to face South Korea on Wednesday.
