Hugo Sánchez Hails Van Nistelrooy

The Mexico coach was a legend at the Bernabéu and he is delighted that the club have found an out-and-out goalscorer to help guide them to more trophies.

Van Nistelrooy has just put pen-to-paper on a new contract at Madrid and Sánchez was quick to sing the praises of the Netherlands international.

"People asked me which forward I thought would be best for Real Madrid and I gave his name," he explained.

"His style is perfect for this team. I would have liked to have seen him come four years earlier.

"Real Madrid is well known, among other things, for signing the best strikers on the planet.

"I identify with him because of his goals, although his style is a bit different. He will win many trophies in the shirt, just like I did."

Sánchez has also been impressed by the improvements made to the team by Bernd Schuster this term and he believes that another era of Madrid success has arrived.

"This team will win a lot of trophies too and help increase the grandness of the club," he continued.

"Football comes in cycles and I hope that this new era will see the side lift a lot of cups and break a few records."
