Cannavaro-What Crisis?

Napoli defender Paolo Cannavaro has come to the defence of his club by insisting there is no crisis.

The Azzurri lost 5-2 at the weekend to Milan and they were slated in the Italian press for not living up to their defensive standards. The side had already conceded five in December against Atalanta and Italian media were quick to point to a crisis in defence. However Cannavaro has replied in defence of his team mates.

“I can’t explain how we conceded five goals, but against a side full of champions like Milan these things can happen. I know our fans were unhappy, so were we, but we just have to move on and hope we can bounce back,” Cannavaro told Il Mattino.

Recent speculation in the Italian media had suggested that certain players wanted to leave in the transfer window following the 5-2 crushing at San Siro. However the Napoli defender has played down the talk.

“I don’t know nothing about the transfer market, and to be honest I’m not really worried about it either. I can only talk about myself, I don’t know what the others are thinking.”

Napoli will be hoping for a better defensive display when they take on Lazio for a place in the quarter finals of the Coppa Italia on Thursday evening.
