Sporting Braga have announced the signing of 20-year-old Chilean defender Pablo Contreras until the end of the season.
The stopper was a free agent after leaving Celta Vigo of the Spanish second division earlier in this winter transfer window.
Contreras had been unhappy in Vigo prior to the Galician side's relegation at the end of last season. Then-coach Hristo Stoichkov had all but dumped the player, and while new bsos Lopez Caro had insisted to give the defender a fair shake, Contreras still made just three Liga appearances all season, one just days before his departure.
As such, he was allowed to leave the club by mutual consent, with Braga now pouncing to land the defender, who can play both at right-back and in the middle.
Contreras signed on at Celta in 2001, enjoying loan spells at Osasuna and Sporting Lisbon immediately after his arrival. A Chilean international since his days at Monaco, he's picked up over 40 caps since 1999, taking part in the Copa America this summer.
He is eligible to play for Braga against Werder Bremen in the upcoming UEFA Cup knockout clash.
