The 24-year-old Argentine international has put pen to paper to a deal running up to June 30, 2012. It is the most expensive transfer in the history of Greek football, since the Pireas giants have offered 7.4 million euros for a 50% share of his sporting rights, with Israeli agent Pini Zahavi keeping hold of the other half.
Happy that it’s over
“I’m very happy. I couldn’t wait for the deal to be finalized. I’m ready to start training as soon as possible,” Belluschi told an army of reporters waiting for him outside the club’s headquarters.
The Super Cup and Super League title holders are bracing themselves for one of the biggest weeks of the season, as they entertain arch-rivals Panathinaikos twice in the space of four days, both in the Championship and the Cup. But maybe Takis Lemonis will have to do without his new star, on Sunday at least.
Dream fulfilled
“I won’t take any part in the coming derby. I’ll join my new teammates in training for the next few days and we’ll see how things will go,” the fifth Argentine player on the current roster of Olympiakos said. “It is very important to me to join a major European club. It’s any Argentine footballer’s dream. Mine has just been fulfilled and I feel really happy. I promise the fans that I’ll do as well as I did playing in my homeland. I aim to help the team win more silverware.”
The former Newell’s Old Boys versatile midfielder, who is of Italian origin, will get 400.000 euros for the remainder of the season and his wages will escalate from 800.000 to 1.4 million. Belluschi will be officially unveiled to fans and media tomorrow, at 15:00 local time (14:00 CET) at the “Georgios Karaiskakis”, alongside Slovenian Mirnes Sisič, who was the Olympiakos first winter signing.
